Possibly My New Favorite Song

Our family has this homemade cd that has just about the best combination of love songs ever. They're pretty much all songs recorded pre-2000 (ok, at least pre-2005) and I like basically every single one of them, which seems to me to be a rare occurance with somebody else's wedding cd. Usually, the bride and groom like every song and the guests may like 1 or 2 out of the 17 or so on there.

The funny thing about this particular wedding cd, is that we hardly know the bride and groom. In fact, I'm positive the groom doesn't know me, and I'd be very surprised if the bride remembered me. They're a couple my aunts knew from Steubenville and we did not attend their wedding; somehow, one of my aunts passed the cd on to us. I don't know if she had extras or simply didn't share their fabulous taste.

Anyway, I recently downloaded the cd to my itunes and have been enjoying the songs ever since. I'll admit, not many people of my generation would genuinely enjoy listening to John Denver or Etta James (oh man, is she an amazing vocalist though!), let alone Loreena McKennit (and you're saying who??) or Allison Krauss...ok, let's be honest, I don't really enjoy listening the two particular Allison Krauss songs this couple chose all that much, but hers are probably my least favorite on there and I don't even mind them too much.

Some of my preferred artists and songs include but are not limited to, Jack Johnson-Bubble Toes, a few different selections by Dave Matthews Band, Rufus Wainwright-Hallelujah, and my new favorite: Nickel Creek-When You Come Back Down.

This last one is a song I've heard a bunch of times by now (we've had the cd since I was about 10), but it wasn't until recently that I really began to appreciate it. I'm not sure if it's lyrics like, "I'll be the harmony to every lonely song That you learn to play" and "Angel, you were born to fly, If you get too high I'll catch you when you fall" that make it special or if I just like the soothing accoustic guitar sound and folksy fiddle solos sprinkled throughout, but, either way, I'm almost decided that this is my new favorite song. :)

So take a listen and read the lyrics and let me know what you think.

2 new cd's

My mom got Switchfoot's  'Beautiful Letdown' and Relient K's  'Five Score and Seven Years ago'. They're both really good. I think I like the Relient K one better, because the lyrics are really clever, but Switchfoot is awesome too.

My favorite songs from the Switchfoot album are probably 'Ammunition' and 'Redemption'. But that's mostly because I've heard 'Gone' and 'Dare You to Move' so many times it's not even funny.

And from the Relient K album...I like pretty much all of them. I've always liked 'Best Thing' and 'Must Have Done Something Right'..but I've listened to those way too much. ;-)

My new favorites are: 'I'm Taking You With Me' and 'Faking My Own Suicide'.

'Crayons Can Melt On Us For All I Care' is fabulous though. ;-D

I actually like 'Death Bed' a lot too.

See..I can't choose a favorite. ;-)
